IT WAS another exciting weekend of football action involving Ayrshire's West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) sides on Saturday, November 2.

The fixture card was dominated by cup action, with a number of local sides earning progress into the third round of the West of Scotland Cup.

However, there was also a handful of league matches which were of vital importance to the clubs involved.

In the WoSFL Premier Division, only one match was played - with Auchinleck Talbot hosting Benburb.

Tommy Sloan's side fell behind just four minutes into the game, and trailed for a majority of the match.

However, they would earn a point after Tarek Abed struck in the 91st minute to make it 1-1 and ensure it ended honours even.

Into the First Division and Kilbirnie Ladeside hosted Cumbernauld United in one of only two fixtures in the league.

For the fourth straight time, the Garnock Valley side earned a point after coming from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw.

The last side from the area to feature in league action was Kello Rovers, who continued their fine run of form in the Fourth Division.

They defeated Newmains United 3-0 to climb into second place in the standings.

In the league cup and two top division sides were taken all the way to penalties by club's in the leagues below.

Beith Juniors played out a 1-1 draw with Glasgow Perthshire, coming from behind to take the tie to spot kicks.

Chris Strain's team would then avoid the upset, winning the shootout 5-4.

It was not the same story for Cumnock, who were leading Ashfield 3-2 heading into the dying minutes of a rollercoaster cup tie.

The First Division side then equalised late, and won the subsequent shootout 5-4 to knock Stephen Swift's side out.

Shocks were hard to come by thereafter, with most higher division sides earning their place in the third round of the competition.

Bonnyton Thistle were one of those to exit after losing 4-1 to Premier Division outfit St Cadoc's.

Troon were also able to avoid an upset, taking care of Fourth Division club Easterhouse and progressing after a 3-0 win.

In an all top league clash, Darvel dispatched of Gartcairn in a second round fixture which the East Ayrshire side won 3-2.

Penalties were required in North Ayrshire where Irvine Victoria and East Kilbride Thistle played out a thrilling 3-3 draw.

It was the visitors who earned their place in the next round draw, winning the shootout 3-0.

Their rivals, Irvine Meadow, also exited the competition following a 2-0 loss away to Johnstone Burgh.

Kilwinning Rangers were made to work for their place in the next stage, playing a thrilling tie against Glasgow United.

After leading 2-0, the Buffs were pegged back - but two late goals earned the North Ayrshire outfit a 4-2 victory.

Joining them in the third round will be Largs Thistle, who cruised to a 3-0 victory away to Lanark United.

Also easing into the next round were Maybole Juniors, who kept their fine start to the season going with a 6-1 win at home to Thorn Athletic.

Whitletts Victoria faced the tough task of taking on Clydebank, who are yet to face defeat this season.

The Bankies made light work of their trip to Ayrshire, winning 7-0 to move into round three.

Last on the fixture card was Dalry Thistle, who have become accustomed to causing a shock in cup competitions.

However, they were unable to progress on Saturday, losing 3-0 away to Yoker Athletic.
