CUMNOCK Juniors boss Stephen Swift is urging his players to "lay a mark down" against runaway league leaders Clydebank this weekend.
The Townhead Park side are preparing for their first West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) Premier Division fixture since August - after their match against Pollok was abandoned - when the travel to face the Bankies on Saturday, October 19.
Swift is hoping the match can prove to be a catalyst for a shift in league form after his side got back to winning ways and secured progress in the South Challenge Cup on Saturday, October 12.
It followed their exit from both the senior and junior Scottish Cups in their previous two matches - after agonising loses to both Hermes and Brora Rangers.
Swift hopes his side can kick on after dispatching Lochore Welfare 2-1 to reach the fourth round of the South Challenge Cup - even if he felt the performance was lacking compared to previous weeks.
He commented: “It’s the opposite of the weeks before where we have played well and came away with nothing.
“We didn’t play well on Saturday and we won the game, it’s contrasting feelings. The South Challenge is a big competition so we want to go as far as we can.
“We got the result and that’s about as much as we’ll say about it – it’s obviously not the way we want to play.”
The Townhead Park boss is now hoping for the best of both worlds, a win and performance against Clydebank - who have yet to taste defeat in any competition so far this season.
Despite this fine form, Swift is confident his side can put their run to a halt.
He said: “Clydebank will have super high confidence, they’ve won every single game they’ve played this season.
“We’re hoping that can’t last forever and we will be the team that stops them.
“We’re thinking about how we can get ourselves back on track in the league, get back to winning ways.
“Our paramount priority this year is the league and we believe we can go on a really good run.
“There is no better opportunity than playing the league leaders, away from home, in terms of laying our mark.”
