MUIRKIRK Juniors boss Ross Cusick has heaped praise on the "buzz" around Burnside Park at the minute.
However, the manager is refusing to get carried away despite his side extended their lead at the top of the West of Scotland Football League (WoSF) Second Division.
With the season one third of the way to completion, The Kirk are now five points clear at the summit - after blowing away their opposition in a top of the table clash this weekend.
The East Ayrshire outfit faced Whitletts Victoria on Saturday, October 12, with their league position under threat.
Despite facing defeat only once this season, Whitletts would have taken top spot with a win at Burnside Park.
But Cusick's side cemented their positions as they made it nine wins from ten matches with a resounding 4-0 victory.
Two goals apiece from James Hazlett and Marc Capaldi secured all three points in what was the club's biggest league match so far this season.
“It’s great for the people at the club," Cusick commented. "Traditionally Muirkirk fans haven’t had a great deal to shout about.
“Everybody at the club has a wee buzz about them, we’ve seen a boost through the gates.
“Long may that continue, there is a real feel good factor, but we are not daft.
“It’s ten games into the season and we have a tough run of games heading into Christmas, that’s really our focus now.”
The manager was also pleased to see his side remain perched at the top of the table.
He said: “Our league has probably got the biggest blends of styles. You’ve got young teams that want to play technical football then you’ve got teams that want to play more direct.
“You can’t just play one way, you’ve got to be able to adapt and have different ways of playing.
“We’ve shown that we can play against the football teams and we are starting to show that we can play against the teams that are more direct.
“It was really pleasing because I think a lot of people thought Whitletts were favourites going into the game.
“For us to go and extend the lead at the top, when that was under threat, in that style was brilliant.”
Cusick is now confident that his side have now shown people what they are made of - and have rightfully earned their tag as title challengers.
He added: “I think everyone still thinks we are punching above our weight away bit, maybe, in a traditional sense, we are.
“For the players, we are not, we are as good as anyone in the league.
“The first game of the season I said to the players is that we are beneath nobody in this league, we shouldn’t feel inferior – I think the penny is starting to drop with that.
“We’ve played most teams now and I think we actually feel that.”
However, the Burnside Park boss was keen to emphasise that this won't lead to complacency.
He continued: “Every time we step out on the pitch we are equals, we don’t feel above anybody and we don’t feel below them.
“If we go out there and we work hard enough we will get results more often than not.”
