THE Ayrshire amateur football season is now underway - with Cumnock AFC not taking part for the first time in 16 years.
A statement released earlier this month confirmed that the club had folded ahead of the commencement of this season.
Though it may not spell the end of the side forever, perhaps just for now, with departing manager Craig Dunlop just saying "goodbye for now".
He commented: "On the eve of the new Ayrshire AFA season kicking off it will be the first since 2008 that there will be no participation from Cumnock AFC.
"Cumnock AFC has been the focal point of my life for over 16 years and despite the various rumours of being unable to collate a squad I felt that the time was right for change, whither that be a break or a fresh challenge.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank a whole host of individuals, businesses and community partners as without your dedication and support the journey would never have been possible."
Craig also thanked the many people who made the club's 16 years possible, from the players and coaches to the committee, sponsors and community partners.
He added: "Everyone who ever watched a game, bought a hidden team, sponsored a match ball, attended a fundraiser, gave me advice, listened to me moan again thank you all very much.
"To every opponent we came up against and referee who took charge of our games, I hope we left a positive opinion win lose or draw.
"Sixteen years and I loved every minute."
