Nithsdale Wanderers took on Queen of the South Under 18s at the weekend, competing for the annual Jim Kerr Memorial Cup.

The tournament was launched in memory of the late Queen of the South legend and Kirkconnel man Jim, who starred for the Doonhamers in the 60s, after joining from Kello Rovers.

Jim, who went on to captain Queens, making 403 first team appearances, sadly died at his home in Sanquhar in 2008. But his legacy is far from forgotten.

The Jim Kerr Memorial Cup was launched after his death, and last Sunday's big match for the trophy was a fitting tribute to the man.

The game at Lorimer Park ended in a 6-3 win for Nithsdale, with Sean McKenzie scoring four goals for the Wanderers and David Watt and Steven Degan weighing in with one each.
