TOWNHEAD Park will play host to an historic game next month.
And the stakes could hardly be higher as Cumnock Juniors take on bitter rivals Auchinleck Talbot on Tuesday, February 11, in what will be the first competitive full 90-minute Junior game to be played under floodlights at the East Ayrshire ground.
Cumnock Juniors president Kevin Orr is excited about the game and is hoping a sizeable crowd will be attracted to Townhead Park for what could be billed the clash of the East Ayrshire titans.
He said: “I prefer the traditional Saturday afternoon game but this is something different.
“Hopefully there will be a big support and as well as fans from both clubs we will get some neutrals coming along since there are no other games on that night.
“People might be going out for a pint and then coming to enjoy the game.
“Obviously I hope that we will get one over on our rivals and we look forward to.”
“It was originally going to be the Wednesday but we put it back to the Tuesday because Kilmarnock are playing Rangers that night. It’s something we might be willing to do again if there was an interest in it. I know a few clubs have them and hopefully in time other teams will follow. The floodlights have been here for about four years and it’s good to have the opportunity to user them.”
