A DECISION date for the potential release of a man who killed a Drongan teenager has been set, according to a family campaign group.
Michelle Stewart was murdered by John Wilson in 2008 when she was just 17.
At the time, Wilson, who also uses the name Sanken, was handed a life sentence and told he would have to serve 12 years behind bars before being considered for parole.
Having been denied parole on four previous occasions, Wilson had another hearing back in September, which was deferred pending further information.
Following Michelle's death, a family campaign group was set up named Michelle's Law, which aims to protect the families of victims and put their welfare at the centre of any decision on parole and early release.
Now, the campaign group has said that the next hearing date for Michelle's killer has been set for Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Michelle's sister, Lisa, said that the family is living a never-ending nightmare.
She said: "The family just want this to be over, but we're not even sure what that looks like.
"There's very little support for families in these situations, but we're going to keep fighting for Michelle's name."
Announcing the news that Wilson's new date had been set, the family campaign group said that the time taken between the original hearing being deferred and a new date being set means there must be some doubt in the overall decision.
