CUMNOCK'S indoor pool has been closed "until further notice" for the safety of customers.

Visions Leisure Centre opened back in October 2004 and has been run ever since by Cumnock and District Leisure Group.

The centre recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.

In recent times, staff have been frustrated in their attempts to provide the best facility they can for the community, with various breakdowns meaning temporary closures of the pool.

Announcing the news to customers, a message from the group's board of directors said: "We know the recurring issues with the pool are frustrating. She’s 'an old girl', and repairs can feel like a game of dominoes - fix one issue, and another arises.

"Operating a deck level pool, ground temperatures have made the situation even more challenging. But we’re determined to see this through.

"Currently, the pool temperature sits at 25.1 degrees, which is below our usual range of 27–29 degrees for comfortable swimming and just within the acceptable range for competitive swimming.

"However, if the pool cover is removed, the temperature drops below all safe standards, posing a risk to anyone entering the water, including the possibility of cold-water shock.

"In light of this, we have made the difficult decision to close the pool until further notice to ensure the safety of all our users."

Directors said that the centre relies heavily on membership income to keep it running, despite funding from East Ayrshire Council.

Some centre members are believed to be contemplating cancelling their memberships while the issue is ongoing.

The message added: "We are actively working with contractors to identify a permanent solution to these ongoing issues and restore the pool to full operation, as soon as possible.

"We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and will keep you informed as progress is made.

"While this essential work is ongoing, we want to assure you that the gym, strength room, sauna, and steam room remain open. We’re also enhancing our fitness facilities, with two new treadmills and rowing machines arriving in the first week of December.

"Please don’t rush to cancel your direct debits or memberships. If income declines, it will make the refurbishment, and the pool’s future, unsustainable.

"Your continued support during this time will ensure Visions remains a vital part of our community for years to come.

"Thank you for your patience, understanding, and commitment. Together, we can save our pool and secure its future."
