A CONCERNED resident in Cumnock has said they wouldn't be surprised if they still saw an accident on a currently closed road, despite deterrent work being put in place.
The local contacted the Chronicle last week to say they were waiting for the time that a serious accident was reported on a section of Auchinleck Road that has been shut off.
At the time, despite a full road closure being in place, some drivers were ignoring this and continuing to drive along the road in both directions.

At the moment, only local residents are able to travel along the road, with others blocked from Visions Leisure Centre or from Tanyard at the other side.
The closure is due to be lifted this Friday, November 29.
Wishing to remain anonymous, the resident said that drivers were chancing their luck and travelling along the road, despite the closure being in place and only one side of the route being accessible.
Since then, barriers have now been put in place to completely stop people driving along the road, meaning that a diversion via the A76 bypass will have be adhered to.
Despite these restrictions in place, the resident said they still wouldn't be surprised to see an accident on the road.
They said: "The road is completely closed now, but that's still not stopping driving up in both directions and having to turn at the section of road that is being worked on.
"I've seen a number of drivers speeding along the road without realising the closure is in place, and then having to slam on their brakes and effectively swerve.
"If it's not a worker, then it will be a school child or someone walking their dog that will get hurt by one of these reckless drivers.
"I can't believe how dangerous it is the way people are still coming along this road."
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Operatives have been sent out to erect fencing on Auchinleck Road. This will remain in place for the duration of the work.
“We would like to thank everyone affected for their patience and understanding while we carry out this essential repair.”
