A Mauchline man clinched the top title in the World Solo Drumming Championships for the third year running in 2009. Barry Wilson, 37, a member of the ScottishPower Pipe Band, won the award in front of a sell-out crowd at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Netherthird’s new Community Centre was a hit with locals in 2009. An open day held by the Community Association in November showed off the wide range of facilities available at the brand new centre.
A Cumnock artist had the backing of his local MSP to have his portraits of Keir Hardie and Emrys Hughes on show in the refurbished Baird Institute in 2009. MSP Cathy Jamieson was urging East Ayrshire Council to seek the return of the two portrait from Glasgow City Council.
Lucky Chronicle readers were able to claim free Jelly Belly beans with the paper in November 2009. Michelle McDicken, Lisa McChesney and Cieran McGhee, aged five, were pictured with their treats at the Keystore in New Cumnock’s Castle.
Sorn Primary Pupils really gave it some wellie in aid of the environment in 2009. Pupils invited their parents and members of their Eco Committee into the school to plant winter flowers in old wellington boots.
The talented lassies from Cumnock Highland Dancing School showed off their prizes from 2009.
