AN EAST Ayrshire amateur football club has paid tribute to a stalwart community figure following his sad passing.

Mauchline United called Tam Cartner a "massive part of the club" having been part of the committee for the past few years.

A well-known face around the town, Tam had also played a prominent role in the growth of local group, The Clubhouse, which is a men's mental health support group.

Honouring Tam, a Mauchline United post said: "It is with great sadness we share the news of the passing of Tam Cartner.

"Tam was a massive part of the club for last few years coming on board post Covid and became an integral figure in the fundraising department.

"His enthusiastic approach to the job meant that not many turned him down.

"His presence in the changing room kept the players in check with his honest assessment 'nearly always being right.

"He will leave a huge gap in our committee and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to June and his wider family at this sad time.

"Rest in peace Big Tam."

The Clubhouse also released a post to pay tribute to Tam.

They said: "I'll try and find the words to describe Thomas and what he meant to the group. Tam had a profound impact on The Clubhouse.

"He'd been involved in the group from day one, and despite his diagnosis and pain, he continued to come along to every meeting and gave us the most valuable commodity he had; his time.

"He shared an insight into his situation, alongside the loss of his mum.

"He showed courage, resilience and determination as he talked about his life, the lessons learned and his feelings on topics close to his heart in true Tam fashion he found humour as he talked and wasn't shy in sharing his opinions. He was always right!

"He loved his football, his community, his wife, family and friends.

"He prepared us all for this moment. He was at peace with it and his faith provided him with all the comfort he needed.

"His message to us all was simple - be kind.

"Rest easy Tam, you will be missed!"
