A TEENAGE boxer from Ayrshire won the Prince of the Ring belt at a tournament in Sweden at the weekend.

Aaron Sarwar, from Kilmarnock, only took up the sport three years ago, but is now a fixture of the Scotland youth squad.

The 16-year-old, who boxes for Northwest, attended the annual ‘King Of The Ring’ tournament which was held in Boras, Sweden last weekend.

More than 600 boxers from 25 different countries attended the event, with Scottish boxers claiming 34 medals in total, including 15 golds. Aaron took the 52kg gold medal.

(Image: Scottish Boxing) Aaron was then named as the best junior boxer of the Swedish tournament, as well as being awarded the prestigious Prince Of The Ring belt.

He said: "I did karate for around eight years before moving into boxing. I've had 44 fights over my three year career so far and 17 fights just this year.

"I've no more competitions this year, but I'm already training with the Scottish Squad for the British and European Championships.

(Image: Scottish Boxing) Asked if he thought he could go all the way in the sport, he replied: "Yes, definitely. I've had some great support from the Scottish team and I'm already looking forward to next year's tournaments."

He said his inspirational fighters included Adam Azim and Gervonta Davis.
