EAST Ayrshire Council's health and wellbeing branch has lodged an objection against proposals to create a 24/7 gym in Cumnock.
Last month, we reported on an application submitted to transform the former George Telfer funeral parlour on Glaisnock Street into the new fitness facility.
Part of the distinct plans included the information that the gym would be open at all hours of the day.
Planners said they want to make sure the building is not left derelict for too long, and turn it into an asset for the town.
Despite the majority of feedback online being positive, the local authority's Environmental Health department has lodged an objection against the initial plans.
In its objection, the service states that applicants must prove that nearby premises and businesses will not be adversely affected by noise at the gym, due to the unsociable opening hours.
An online objection states: "It is noted that the supporting statement provided by the applicant suggests the facility would operate on a 24-hour, seven days a week basis.
"This is unacceptable as the property faces directly across Glaisnock Street from residential properties and is flanked on the same side of the street by residential properties starting at 109 Glaisnock Street, therefore these properties have the potential to be significantly adversely impacted by noise both from within the property and from patrons entering and leaving at unsocial hours.
"Whilst it is acknowledged that Glaisnock Street has a high traffic volume during daytime hours, anecdotally this drops off significantly during late evening and overnight."

The objection continues: "In addition, it is the view of the Environmental Health service that the nature of the proposed business is such that there is significant potential for adverse noise impacts on adjoining businesses, most notably the existing funeral parlour at 107 Glaisnock Street.
"The type of business proposed usually involves high levels of amplified music, and equipment noise.
"The development site and the funeral parlour at 107 Glaisnock Street are housed in the same building (originally built as a fruit and vegetable merchants then subsequently divided to form a funeral parlour at 105 and snooker hall at 107) therefore the level of acoustic insulation between the now separate properties is unlikely to be to the level at which there would be no noise impacts on the funeral parlour (and to a lesser extent the hairdressing salon at 103 Glaisnock Street)".
In the initial submission to the council's planning department, applicants Gym 24 Cumnock Ltd said that, while 24/7 would be the preferred operating hours, they are willing to accept the views of the planning service.
It added: "The proposal incorporates a range of modern systems which will ensure that this new service can be provided without impacting on the local area and community, and will provide local employment opportunities."
No other online objections have been listed as of yet.
