ONE of Cumnock's oldest family businesses will close its doors for good this December, it has been confirmed.
Mary's Fabric Shop, located at the corner of Townhead Street and Glaisnock Street, has been a fixture in the town for more than six decades.
Having started out in the Tanyard before moving onto its current, well-known premises on the corner of Townhead Street and Glaisnock Street, it has become a staple of the Cumnock business scene.
Initially opened by Mary Hope in the late 50s, it was then passed onto her daughter, also Mary, and has been successfully run for the past few years by third generation sisters, Evelyn McBride and Janet Thom.
Despite the change in family owners through the years, the shop was always locally knowns as Mary Hope's.
Earlier this year, Evelyn and Janet announced plans to close the business, to the shock of many people in the town.

However, the owners feel like now is the right time to step away from the shop, and thanked their loyal customers over the years.
Now it has been confirmed that the shop will be closing for the final time on Friday, December 20, with a discount sale in place until then.
The sisters had hoped that someone local might be able to take over the shop and keep the family-run element going.
