EAST Ayrshire Council (EAC) has said that work on a troublesome building in Cumnock will now be completed by the beginning of next year.
Work is being carried out on the gable end wall of the building at 16 and 18 Glaisnock Street, which has been a problem area for the town for more than three years now.
Back in 2021, a collapsed section of wall caused a full closure of the road, before it re-opened one-way until May of last year after a saga that went on for almost 18 months.
TIMELINE: A year-and-a-half later and Glaisnock Street fully reopens
According to a property management plan progress report at a council cabinet meeting earlier this year, it was hoped that work would be completed by this summer, and the building would then be marketed to sell.
During a council cabinet meeting in August 2022, it was decided that more than £100,000 would be ploughed into the building to return it to a safe state, and that it would then be put up for sale.
The council initially ran into issues tracking down the legal owner of the building before work could take place.
Now, a further council update has said that work is expected to finished by January 2025.
Once work on the building has been concluded, the car park currently on Ayr Road behind Donsport will then be extended to take up a section of the area.
An EAC spokesperson said: "East Ayrshire Council can confirm that works to construct a new gable wall to the property are underway and due to completed by January 2025.
"The Ayrshire Roads Alliance will then construct a new car park on the vacant site to extend the existing car park accessed from Ayr Road."
