A BUSY road through Cumnock is set to be closed off for up to 10 days next month.

Auchinleck Road, which is a main road used for the school run to the Barony Campus, will be closed off close to the area of Cumnock Rugby Club while Scottish Water work is carried out.

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) maintains roads on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, and a notice on the company's website states that around 90m of the road will be closed in both directions for work to take place.

According to the listing, the road is set to close at 9.30am on Tuesday, November 19 and be in place until 4.30pm on Friday, November 29.

ARA told the Chronicle the road will be closed for the full duration of the works.

Two diversion routes have been put in place, with one to accommodate high-sided vehicles.

For car drivers, a diversion would mean taking the bypass to access Cumnock or Auchinleck from the opposite side.

Drivers from the Cumnock side may be able to access as far along the road as the entrance for the Holm.

Those coming from Auchinleck should be able to travel as far along as Visions Leisure Centre before being met by the road works.

An alternative route for high-sided vehicles has been put in place to avoid the railway bridge on Auchinleck Main Street.

The diversion is via the A70 into Ochiltree, then along the A7036 Mill Road and Barony Road, before coming in to Cumnock via the B7083 and vice versa.
