EAST Ayrshire provost Jim Todd is to step away from his role at the end of the month "due to personal circumstances".
The rock and roll provost has been in the role since 2012, and was re-elected to the post in June of this year alongside depute provost Claire Leitch.
An announcement from East Ayrshire Council confirms that Jim Todd intends to continue to serve as a member for Ward 5 "for as long as he is able to do so".
The council will be invited to appoint the next provost at the meeting on October 31.
Speaking about his decision to leave the role, provost Todd said: “It has been an absolute honour and privilege to serve the council and our communities as provost, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every engagement and event, of which there have been many over the years.
“However, in personal terms, I simply don’t feel I can continue to give of my best in the role and therefore it is with deep regret that I have decided that the right thing to do is stand down.
"My heartfelt thanks go to all fellow members, officers and to the members of our communities who have supported me in the role of provost in what I consider to be the best Council in Scotland.”
