CUMNOCK'S hospitality scene has been dealt a blow as one of the town's restaurants has made the "heart-breaking decision" to permanently close.

The Clydesdale restaurant on The Square opened last year and offered a range of Mediterranean-style dishes.

Having taken on the former bank building which had been closed for six years previously, owners Leisa Hall and partner Stevie Hooper-Sanders recently made the decision to reduce opening hours due to unsustainable costs.

Work had been carried out at the building to transform it in the restaurant and maintain some of its original bank features.

However, their dream has now come to an end and the restaurant will remain permanently closed.

Announcing the news in a heartfelt message, they said: "We have had to make a heart-breaking decision this morning. Our doors will now remain permanently closed.

"Unfortunately we just can’t maintain the losses. Stevie and I are so proud that we had this dream and we worked so hard to get The Clydesdale open. There were many tears and blood shed.

"We always wanted to provide fresh, local produce, cooked to order, and that’s what we always did.

"But, unfortunately, that causes a lot of fresh produce being put in the bin if not sold.

"We want to thank our wonderful customers who have supported us and loved our food. We have been proud to deliver it to you either at table or to your door. Honestly we can’t thank you enough for your loyalty.

"We also need to thank the staff that we have had during this year. We couldn’t have done it without you.

"Thank you so much to our friends and family who have supported us through so much. You know who you are".
