PLANS have been lodged to transform a former funeral parlour in Cumnock into a new 24-hour gym.
The former George Telfer funeral parlour closed at the end of May and was listed for sale shortly after.
Having been a fixture in the town's Glaisnock Street for well over a decade up until its closure, plans have now been lodged to transform it.
An application, by Bennet Developments and Consulting, would see the building transformed and include male and female shower and changing facilities, a fitness class studio and main gym area.
Planners say they want to make sure the building is not left derelict for too long, and turn it into an asset for the town.
A supporting statement with the application states: "The proposed development is for the change of use of this vacant unit into a gymnasium with fitness studio and changing facilities.
"Ideally the gymnasium would operate 24/7 in order to be available to provide a service to the widest possible customer base, particularly those working shifts, though it is not expected that footfall during the night would be of a very high order.
"Whilst 24/7 would be ideal, the applicant is willing to accept the views of the planning service."

It's added: "What is important is the fact that this large “warehouse” configured building will not be abandoned to become derelict but will be recycled to provide a new and exciting facility in the area.
"Given the emphasis which is placed on both physical and mental well being and the recognition that exercise can contribute to improving both physical and mental health, a facility such as is proposed, can offer a whole range of exercise regimes, tailored to individual needs, including individual workouts, group workouts, weights, special classes, dance classes, spin classes etc.
"The proposal incorporates a range of modern systems which will ensure that this new service can be provided without impacting on the local area and community, and will provide local employment opportunities."
Plans were submitted to the council's planning authority in September, with a decision set to be made by the end of November.
