STAFF, pupils, parents and the wider community of Doon Academy got together for a joyous evening of celebrations recently.
They gathered to celebrate the outstanding academic achievements of the young people throughout session 2023/24.
Expertly hosted by recently-appointed S6 school captains, Jack Young and Isabelle Lound, the top table of the school leadership team, Elaine Stewart MP and East Ayrshire Council (EAC) head of education Linda McAulay-Griffiths were treated to an outstanding spectacle showcasing the brilliance of broad general education and senior phase pupils.
Acting head teacher Martin Robertson delivered his first speech as leader of the school and spoke proudly and passionately about the remarkable progress and journey of the school, spearheaded by its incredible young people.
He emphasised the new school values of 'Respect, Ambition and Inclusion', underpinning the very essence and ethos of the school community. This was followed by an inspiring vision that Doon Academy aims to be the best wee school in the country in three years.
The audience was entertained throughout the evening by musical interludes from skilled musicians Owen Given (S4), Billie-Jo Mullen (S4), Jack Young (S6), Sam Young (S3) and Scott Sturgeon (S4).
Throughout the evening, subject prizes were issued to deserving students based upon general excellence, progress and achievement and special awards for services to the school.
Individual subject certificates were also presented in recognition of attainment and effort.
The celebrating success evening culminated in a standing ovation for two-time Dux Award winner Teagan Cavanagh-Smith.
Post-ceremony refreshments and cakes afforded the opportunity for pupils, staff and family members to congratulate prize winners and rejoice in a tremendous and memorable occasion.
The school wished to pay a special thanks to Pamela Milroy (PT maths) and her committee for organising and co-ordinating a flawless exhibition of student accomplishments.
Thanks were also given to the school community and wider society for their loyal and steadfast support.
The school will now look forward to further celebrations as it continues to honour pupil achievements and propel attainment.
