THE current closure of the B741 between New Cumnock and Dalmellington looks set to be extended.
Dalmellington Community Council has provided an update from SP Energy Networks stating that it will be extended for almost two weeks.
The road closed from New Cumnock on September 10 and was expected to re-open on October 2.
However, the update states that closure could be in place until 5pm on October 14.
An announcement from the community council from SP Energy said: "Following on from the recent information provided in advance of the current road closure on the B741 near to Nith Lodge.
"The cable pulling and jointing works were initially planned to be completed around 2nd October.
"This is a complex operation and due to unforeseen complexities SP Energy Networks regret to inform you that more time is required to complete operations.
"To carry out the work safely - the road closure will unfortunately remain in place until 14th October with the detour and other associated arrangements continuing on during this extended period."
It was added that this had been agreed with the Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA), which manages the roads on behalf of East Ayrshire Council.
A 35-mile diversion in place from Dalmellington via Ayr Road A713, B742, A70, A76 and vice versa.
A separate high-sided vehicle diversion will via Ayr Road A713, B742, A70, B730, B7046, U728 ,A70, A76 and vice versa.
