A REPLACEMENT bus service will be in place for people travelling between Auchinleck and Glasgow this weekend.

Network Rail will be carrying out essential work worth £140million, starting on Saturday, September 28.

No trains will be running on either the East Kilbride or Barrhead lines from Saturday, September 28 to Monday, September 30, as two bridges are demolished and replaced.

This will affect trains between Glasgow and Kilmarnock, meaning a replacement bus service will be in place.

Those travelling from Auchinleck or New Cumnock will be able to board a train to Kilmarnock, before switching to a bus for travel from Kilmarnock to Glasgow.

Similar arrangements are in place for travel in the opposite direction.

It will coincide with reduced services for the area which are set to continue until next month due to ongoing pay issues.

Customers are reminded that journeys may take longer than the train service, and fewer seats will be available for those travelling.

ScotRail is also encouraging customers to buy their train tickets in advance via mTickets on the ScotRail app.

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail service delivery director, said: “The works being carried out by Network Rail this weekend are absolutely critical in the latest phase of the project to upgrade the railway between Glasgow and East Kilbride.

“Unfortunately, it does mean that we need to run a replacement bus service while the railway is closed, and we are urging customers to plan their journey in advance.

“We will do everything we can to keep people moving, and we are looking forward to the fantastic benefits this project will bring for customers.”
