PUPILS from Cumnock's Robert Burns Academy headed off on an expedition this month in a bid to gain their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.

(Image: Robert Burns Academy) As well as taking part in the expedition, the DoE students also have to carry out volunteer work in the community for six month to gain silver status. 

There are also physical and skills sections to complete before the awards can be granted to students.
