AN AYRSHIRE man has denied allegations of possessing indecent images of children in Muirkirk.
Daniel Stephen Lockwood pleaded not guilty when he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last Wednesday, after allegedly collecting illicit photos and then failing to turn up for a previous hearing.
The 38-year-old is said to have had indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of youngsters between May 2022 and January 2023, while at an address on Colthart Drive.
He faces a second charge of taking, permitting to be taken or making indecent images between May and August 2022.
A further charge on the Crown indictment claims that Lockwood failed to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on July 17, 2024 without reasonable excuse to face the other allegations.
Defence solicitor Robert Logan told the court last week that 'very significant legal issues' left him 'considering my position'.
He added: "The DWP confirmed [the accused's] mental health condition.
"He is here today after advising him he needs a soul and conscience certificate."
The medical certificate is issued by doctors excusing people from attending court due to health problems.
After Mr Logan inquired with the accused's doctor about a certificate excusing persons from attending court, he added: "The GP said they would not do that. It seems to be an unusual situation."
It was claimed in court that the doctor would not issue the certificate as Lockwood was 'accused' of a crime.
However, Sheriff Shirley Foran said: "Innocent until proven guilty."
Mr Logan added: "I’m not sure the court's view of this [the GP's] policy, but it seems to be the case.
"If there are health issues, I will go to his house and show him the Crown's evidence, but he is very adamant he is not guilty."
Bail was continued for Lockwood, of Stoneyhill Avenue, Muirkirk.
He will face the charges again at a later date.
