A CUMNOCK woman is accused of assaulting an ex-boyfriend to his severe injury after pushing him down a flight of stairs.

Courtney Gibson pleaded not guilty to charges of threatening or abusive behaviour and serious assault during a brief court hearing last week.

The 26-year-old is alleged to have caused fear and alarm, shouted and swore at the complainer at John Weir Avenue on May 1 last year.

Court papers state she repeatedly followed the man then banged on a door, and threw a glass bottle at the door causing it to smash.

It is claimed that Gibson assaulted the alleged victim by repeatedly headbutting him and seizing him by the body.

According to the Crown, the accused pushed the man on the body causing him to fall down a flight of stairs.

The charges state Gibson straddled him and repeatedly punched him on the head to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.

The Crown's indictment states both charges are aggravated by involving abuse of a partner or ex-partner.

Defence solicitor Martin Duffy told a pre-trial hearing at Ayr Sheriff Court: “She will be using the special defence of self defence, there may be an attack on the character of the complainer.

“At this stage it doesn’t look like there is any agreement [with prosecutors]."

A trial was set for later in the year.

Bail was continued for Gibson, of Dalgleish Avenue, and she will face the allegations at a later date.
