A YOUNG racer from Mauchline has set his sights on reaching the top of the motorcycle world - and he's started in the perfect way to achieving the goal.

Alisdair Pollock is currently on track for the Auto Cycle Union (ACU) Oset British Youth Trials Championship in his first year, winning six out of nine rounds.

The trials started back in April, and Alisdair has travelled across the country with his dad to the likes of Wales and Hampshire to compete.

A pupil at Mauchline Primary school, Alisdair receives fantastic support from everyone there including teacher, Mrs Norman, who has been providing work packages to complete while travelling for competitions.

Known to friends and family as 'wee Al', Alisdair is already making a big noise in the ACU world, receiving write-ups in both TMX magazine and Trails Magazine. The latter reported wee Al is 'putting Scotland firmly on the map'.

The final round takes place at Early Shilton on September 28.

Mauchline's new MP, Lillian Jones, along with Ballochmyle councillor, Linda Mabon, went to visit Alisdair in his purpose-built practice track.

Speaking about his efforts, Cllr Mabon said: "He has to travel all over the country to compete, with dad being his driver.

"He has even appeared on a promotional campaign for the Oset TXP which was shown at the European Championships in Belgium

"He was very keen to show his skills, and along with his parents, Louise and Big Al, we spent some time at his training area at the family home.

"Remember the name everyone, as I believe we have a superstar in the making.

"Well done wee Al, and a massive thanks to you and your mum and dad for inviting us along on a beautiful sunny day."
