New Cumnock was the place to be at the weekend as the popular FitFest event made a welcome return.

New Cumnock Development Trust (NCDT) held the first free FitFest event last year, which was attended by more than 2,000 people.

Organisers said they wanted to make this year's event bigger and better, and they certainly seemed to achieve that.

Hundreds of people of all ages turned out once again to join in on all things such as the zipline, tubing, bikes and loads more.

Scottish Power's community benefits fund supports the event, with the likes of East Ayrshire Council's Vibrant Communities, Active Schools and East Ayrshire Leisure Trust all getting involved this year.

Laura Pagan from NCDT said she wanted to have an event that was affordable, accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

She said: "This is very much a New Cumnock Development Trust event and there’s so much work that goes into this one day.

"There’s not many days out that you could go as a family, keep entertained all day and not have to spend a penny if you don’t want, all while keeping active.

"This kind of thing can help New Cumnock get its identity back because it’s not totally recovered since the mines closed."
