Plans are progressing for a new cycle track to be created in Dalmellington, with official proposals now lodged.

The application, lodged on behalf of Dalmellington Parish Development Trust (DPDT), will see the track built on land between Ayr Road and McAdam Way, close to Craigmark Burtonians' Station Park.

Also included in the plans will be the creation of three storage containers.

One of these will be a cafe and refreshments place, one will be for bike hires and the other will be for storage and maintenance.

The area is a former woodland, but trees have already been removed which will make way for the new track.

Fourteen parking spaces will be created, including two disabled spots.

Earlier this year, East Ayrshire Council cabinet agreed a 25-year lease with Dalmellington Parish Development Trust (DPDT) for the vacant land where the track will be built.

The lease was moved ahead, which will cost an annual rental price of £1.

A council report said: "The DPDT have ambitions to create an inclusive cycle track within the area and are working closely with Ayrshire Roads Alliance in relation to parking, roads and connectivity to the Dalmellington Active Travel Network.

"Successful completion of the proposal will provide further inclusive amenities within the locality, increasing active travel options, providing employment opportunities and, it is anticipated, increasing the footfall within the community."
