A WOMAN has been charged in connection with allegations that an XL Bully dog bit children in Logan.

Danielle Bevis is charged with several breaches of the Dangerous Dogs Act on various occasions from March 9-13 this year.

The 35-year-old, who was not present when her case called at Ayr Sheriff Court last week, faces a charge of being owner of a dog restricted by the Act, namely an XL Bully, and allowing it to stay at Holmstead Crescent and Logan Avenue.

She faces a second charge of allowing the same dog to be in a public place in Holmhead Crescent on March 9 without being muzzled or kept on a lead.

The Crown alleges that Bevis, while being in charge of the dog, "did suffer or permit it to cause injury or give reasonable cause for alarm or annoyance" to another man was in Holmhead Crescent with his dog on the same day.

Court papers claim that the animal repeatedly jumped up at the man's dog while he was holding it up.

A fourth charge claims that Bevis was the owner of a dog which was "dangerously out of control" after it allegedly jumped up repeatedly at another dog, being held up by the same owner, on March 13.

The animal is alleged to have growled and barked at a boy and bitten his clothing and leg to his injury, and to have then run at a boy aged 10, biting his leg and clothing.

It is alleged the dog then jumped up on and scratched a nine-year-old girl, biting her and pulling her, all to her injury.

Defence solicitor John Gallagher asked for a continued intermediate diet to discuss the case in more detail with his client.

The procurator fiscal depute said the Crown was not seeking a warrant for Bevis's arrest, and Sheriff Sheriff Maria Kicinski continued the case for Bevis to appear in court in person.

Bevis, of Holmhead Crescent, will attend court to face the charges at a later date.

All accused persons reported in the Cumnock Chronicle are considered innocent unless they are found or later admit to being guilty.
