Ayrshire is set to be hit with heavy rain and strong wind this week- with a yellow warning issued.

The unfavourable weather is set to roll in on Wednesday morning, with the vast majority of the West coast of Scotland set to be affected.

The Met Office has sent out a warning which is due to last from 9am on Wednesday, August 21 until 3pm on Thursday, August 22.

The warning says around 75-100mm of rain is expected over the course of Wednesday and Thursday for some places, with the main bulk of the rain falling with a 24-hour period.

This will be accompanied by strong south-westerly winds which could reach speeds of between 50 to 60 mph.

A Met Office spokesperson added: "With spring tides expected, this could also lead to some potentially dangerous conditions on the coast, with spray and wave overtopping.

"Peak winds are expected during Wednesday evening.

"Winds will ease through Thursday, along with a gradual clearance of the rain by the end of the day."
