A statue to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee has found its forever home in Cumnock, more than two years after it was first unveiled.

Originally unfurled at Cumnock Town Hall in May 2022, the statue was commissioned by Cumnock Community Council (CCC).

The sculpture was the work of local craftsman Greig Faddes of Faddes Welding and Fabrications Limited and was created to mark the Platinum Jubilee that same year.

Local councillors Neill Watts and Jim McMahon were at the unveiling on behalf of East Ayrshire Council.

Also in attendance was Jacqui Todd, who had helped with the funding process earlier in the year.

When it was initially revealed, no final location had been decided for where the statue would permanently be placed.

Initially, it was hoped it could be placed in the grounds of East Ayrshire Community Hospital in the town, but that plan was never followed through.

However, CCC confirmed to the Chronicle earlier this year that its permanent residence would be taken on land at the Ayr Road car park.

And this week it was placed in its lasting spot.

Hugh Murdoch from CCC said: "We're going to create a nice wee garden area around it as well, so it makes it a lovely wee feature.

"A lot of work went into to getting this statue and I think it will be a great thing for the people of Cumnock to have and see."

According to an East Ayrshire Council grants committee report earlier this year, £811 has been awarded to CCC "towards installation of a monument to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II at a site owned by East Ayrshire Council on Ayr Road, Cumnock; and Community Council Public Liability Insurance for the coming year".
