Sanquhar's annual Riding of the Marches event kicked off last week, with a fun-filled line-up lasting until this weekend.

According to the Town of Sanquhar website, the event dates back as far as 1730, and has been a staple in village for all those years.

After years away from the streets, it was revived in 1910, and has only been missed in 2020 due to coronavirus.

Every year, the event include pipe band performances, the crowning of the queen, installation of the principals, ride outs all week, bonfire and fireworks, and loads more.

Saturday, August 17 is set to be the bumper day for the event, with events on from 6am to 6pm.

Year-long planning goes in to making it one of the biggest events in the Dumfries and Galloway calendar.
