East Ayrshire Council (EAC) has provided an update to residents ahead of looming industrial action later this month.

Unite the Union and GMB members voted in favour of strike action which the council says will have a significant impact on its ability to deliver waste services and priority will be given to the collection of household waste at this time.

Waste collection services in East Ayrshire will be affected from Wednesday, August 14 up to and including Wednesday, August 21.

EAC says that residents should present their general refuse (green) bin as normal.

However, locals are asked not to present their recycling trolley or their garden waste during the week of the industrial action.

They should save their recycling and present it bagged with their trolley on the next scheduled collection day. Additional garden waste can also be presented in refuse sacks on the next scheduled day.

Household waste bins not collected on the normal day will be collected as soon as possible and when resources allow, according to the local authority.

Residents with garden waste permits will receive an additional collection date if they have missed a collection due to industrial action.

Recycling centres at Garlaff, Cumnock and Western Road, Kilmarnock will be also closed at this time, but appointments can still be made for dates following the industrial action.

Street cleaning services including servicing of litter bins and maintenance of grassed and flowerbed areas will also be affected.

If litter bins are full, people are asked to not leave litter on the ground beside the bin, and to act responsibly by taking your litter home.

Arrangements may change at very short notice.

The council aims to update its website by 9am each weekday, with details of any affected routes.
