Auchinleck Talbot this week released an anti-racism statement ahead of this weekend's opening league fixture.

An alleged racist incident is said to have involved a young Darvel fan during a recent match between the clubs at Recreation Park on May 6.

Darvel were quick to act on the incident, and apologised to Auchinleck Talbot immediately, which the Beechwood Park side accepted.

The teams are due to face each other in the opening match of the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division at Beechwood Park this Saturday, July 27.

Ahead of the match, both teams will display the Show Racism the Red Card campaign, with Talbot saying that the club does not tolerate discriminatory behaviour.

A club statement said: "During last season’s fixture against Darvel FC on Monday 6th May, racist language was directed at one of our players from the home support.

"Darvel Football Club acted promptly to identify the individuals to resolve the matter and we have accepted their apology.

"Auchinleck Talbot have been proud supporters and promoters of Show Racism The Red Card (SRTRC) since 2007.

"Both clubs will display SRTRC Cards prior to this weekends opening league fixture at Beechwood Park.

"Racism and indeed all discriminatory language and behaviour, has no place in society and will not be tolerated at Auchinleck Talbot."

This weekend's match kicks off at 2pm.
