This year's Dumfries House Fun Dog Show is set to benefit the Scottish charity Bravehound.

The charity provides assistance dogs to veterans struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or physical injuries as a result of their military service.

The popular dog show event will take place at Dumfries House on Wednesday, August 7 from 10am to 1pm.

The Fun Dog Show has become a regular fixture on the annual calendar, attracting a loyal following of dog lovers who can enter their furry friends in categories such as dog that looks most like their owner, best costume and best trick.

Fiona MacDonald, Founder and CEO of Bravehound, said:  “We are, as you can imagine, delighted to have been selected as the chosen charity for the Dumfries House Fun Dog Show.

"It is even more special that we are able to highlight our work in the beautiful setting of Dumfries House where so much good work for the local community takes place.

"The Dumfries House Fun Dog Show is a fantastic opportunity to share our work and for people coming to the show to meet some of our Bravehound dogs and the veterans we are so proud to support."

Mick McConnell, a former RAF police dog handler from Elgin, is one of these veterans.

Mick lost his leg after stepping on an Improvised Explosive Device while on patrol in Afghanistan in 2011.

His Bravehound, a spaniel called Sasha, helps him deal with PTSD.

He explained: “Sasha makes the world of difference to my life. As a result of what I’d been through I had anxiety attacks and severe depression and had turned into a recluse.

"Sasha gets me up in the morning and I’m out and about with her every day. She cheers me up - you can’t help but smile."
