A Cumnock shop was targeted by vandals at the weekend.

Police have launched an investigation after an attempted break-in at The Way Forward 2045 on Ayr Road.

The shop team posted an update on social media on Sunday, July 21 to say that the shop had been targeted inan attempted break-in that saw the front window of the premises damaged.

The eco-friendly store supplies refillable, plastic-free food products, and a variety of hot food and other items.

It's been a popular addition to the local retail scene since opening for business at the end of 2022.

It's believed the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Nobody has been tracked down in connection with the incident yet, according to police.

However, officers say work is ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.25am on Sunday, 21 July, 2024, we received a report of damaged to windows at a premises on Ayr Road, Cumnock.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Cumnock and New Cumnock councillor Neill Watts blasted the senseless act, saying: "This is absolutely disgraceful behaviour by an element in our community who obviously strive to wreck our area and undo the hard work done by local businesses and the community to improve our town.

"I hope that Police Scotland Ayrshire manage to catch the culprits ASAP."
