A Mauchline-based company has paid tribute to a "valued" Largs apprentice after he died suddenly at work.

Ramsay & Jackson said that 24-year-old Craig Kilday, who worked as an apprentice at the Knowhehead-based agricultural engineer, "was a very valued member of the R&J family".

The Largs man sadly died in hospital a few days after an incident on June 28.

Craig has been described as a "fun-loving and energetic friend".

Craig's funeral is due to take place at the Clyde Coast & Garnock Valley Crematorium near Largs at 3pm on Monday, July 22.

Paying tribute to Craig in a statement posted on social media, a Ramsay & Jackson spokesperson said: "We at Ramsay and Jackson are devastated by the tragic loss of our apprentice, Craig Kilday.

"Craig was a very valued member of the R&J family. From the start he was a grafter, entertaining, quick witted and excelled at every task he was given.

"Craig was almost at the end of his apprenticeship and it was clear he would have made a great agricultural rngineer. From the beginning, we were all very fond of him.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to Craig's family and friends at this difficult time.

"We are all still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy of June 28m and we ask for your patience and understanding at this difficult time.

"Ramsay and Jackson will be closed from lunchtime on Monday, July 22 to allow all to attend Craig's funeral and pay their respects.

"Craig, you will be sorely missed."

The Health and Safety Executive, which looks at how building safety is regulated, previously said that an investigation had been launched to determine the circumstances of the incident.
