New luxury pods and lodges could be coming to land between Ochiltree and Skares, if plans are approved.

An application lodged with East Ayrshire Council's planning department aims to build six pods and four lodges on the vacant land.

One-bedroom pods and two-bedroom lodges have been planned by applicant Bonnie Bothys LTD, along with accompanying hot tubs for all properties.

If approved, 20 parking spaces would be created on the site, which is currently used as agricultural land, and an access road from an unclassified C road.

According to the plans, the closest property would be just 30 metres away, with a collection of properties within 100 metres of the plans.

A planning statement attached to the proposals says: The purpose of the planning application and supporting documentation is to support tourism and hospitality services in the local area with Dumfries House; Auchinleck House and Sorn Castle all providing tourism attractions as well as wedding venues and use of the site for temporary accommodation to support these facilities is a reasonable business justification.

"[Plans could] create employment opportunities for the care and maintenance and operation of the site.

"An electric vehicle charging point, cycle rack and bike hire are being proposed along with running mini-bus transport to various venues based on patron demand."

Plans were submitted back in May, and have faced some objections already.

One objection relates to the close proximity of nearby properties to the plans.

The objection states: "My husband and I are the prospective owners of Augusta House, having submitted an offer on the property prior to the emergence of this planning application.

"Had we been aware of this proposal, we would not have proceeded with our offer, as it fundamentally undermines the reasons why we chose this property and will severely compromise our enjoyment of it.

"My objections are based on multiple planning policy violations and the proposal's detrimental effects on the surrounding area.

"I strongly urge the council to reject this planning application.

"The proposed development is not only non-compliant with multiple planning policies but also directly undermines the reasons why we chose to purchase Augusta House.

"This development would irrevocably transform the area, diminishing its natural beauty, tranquillity, and ecological value.

"We implore the council to protect this rural landscape and prioritise the well-being of residents over the commercial interests of the applicant."

Another objection focuses on the potential additional traffic that would be added to the road through the development of these lodges and pods.

A decision on the plans is expected to be made by the beginning of September.
