DRIVERS are being warned of a lengthy diversion due to roadworks which are set to close part of the busy A70 Ayr-Cumnock road for more than a week.
The Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA), which maintains all the roads in both East and South Ayrshire except for the A76 and the A77, has announced plans to carry out work on a section of the A70 for 10 days during August.
Work is set to begin at 8am on Saturday, August 10 and is scheduled to last until 5pm on Monday, August 19.
A full closure will be in place while work is carried out on a section of the A70 at its junction with Hole Road in Coylton.
The road will be closed between 8am and 5pm each day, but will be reopened to traffic overnight.
Eastbound traffic heading from Ayr towards Cumnock will be diverted from the Holmston roundabout southwards along the A77 to the Bankfield roundabout, then on to the A713 past Ayr Hospital, and left on to the B742 towards Coylton, rejoining the A70 at Hill Head.
Westbound traffic will follow the same diversion route in reverse.
