A kind-hearted Catrine youngster is set to shave her hair off to support a caring children's charity.

Gracie Lyle came up with the idea when discussing her back-to-school haircut with mum, Tracy.

Five-year-old Gracie stunned her mum when she decided to wanted to chop off 12 inches of her locks and raise money in support of Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions such as alopecia.

Tracy said: "This idea came totally out of the blue. We’d been taking about her haircut for going back to school and she turned around and said she wanted give her hair to wee girls who don’t have hair.

"Because she’s five, we just left it for a bit, but she’s now adamant that she wants to do this.

"Locally, she’s seen young Ava going through what she’s been through and one of her family members on her dad’s side has recently just rang his bell for the end of his treatment, so I think that’s maybe in her mind as well."

Understandably, Gracie's mum, dad and three brothers are all full of pride for the youngster's decision to do this.

Having only had one proper haircut since she was born, which was before she started nursery, Gracie looks set to start primary two with a brand new look, while helping out a wonderful cause.

Tracy added: "It’s amazing for a five-year-old to be so aware of things like this.

"We’re so proud of her because she loves her hair and she loves putting it into different styles and things like that, so we’ve had to tell her how much of her hair she’s actually cutting off.

"Gracie is absolutely buzzing for it, because she knows she’s going to help.

"We only set everything up properly this week and we’ve had so much support already.

"We started off trying to raise £150, but we soon went past that and then we went to aim for £700, because that’s the cost of making one of these wigs.

"So if Gracie donates her hair and then raises £700 she’ll be so thrilled.

"If everything goes along, then she’ll get her hair cut on the August 12."

Gracie is currently almost half-way towards her £700 goal target already.
