Passengers travelling to Prestwick Airport during The Open are being urged to ensure they leave extra time for their journeys.

A number of road restrictions are in place in the area surrounding the airport for the duration of the major golfing event, which runs until July 21.

There are a number of temporary speed limits of 30mph on the roads surrounding the airport, as well as 'no right turn' restrictions on certain areas along the A79.

There are also no waiting areas in the immediate vicinity, with all roads set to be busier than normal.

An airport spokesperson added: "There are planned park and ride facilities for The Open golf in close proximity to the airport, which will add to congestion on the road network.

"Access to these car parks will involve using the roundabout outside the airport’s car parks to then travel northbound on the A79 to the car park entrance.

"Public transport is also expected to be busier than usual. ScotRail will have additional services running throughout the week, with trains starting earlier and an increased number of trains per hour.

"During this time, please plan your journey ahead and allow additional travel time to the airport to ensure timely arrival."
