A Cumnock-based company which specialises in the construction of 'modular' housing developments is spreading its wings after signing a partnership with another Scottish local authority.

Connect Modular, part of the Wee House Group, based on the Caponacre Industrial Estate, is already well known for its work across Ayrshire.

Now the firm has announced a new deal which will see it create two three-bedroom houses for social rent on behalf of West Dunbartonshire Council.

The new properties will be built at the company's Cumnock factory and transported to the development site in Clydebank for final assembly.

The modular construction method is considered to be one of the most sustainable and efficient ways to build a new home.

The company uses a unique technique to assemble 90 per cent of a home's structure at its warehouse, before being transported to its site to complete the build.

Houses are constructed off-site in its Cumnock factory, where they are completed to ceiling height and pre-fitted with kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing and electrics.

Connect Modular and The Wee House Group has a track record of building houses for developments right across Scotland, including a number in North Ayrshire over the part few years.

The company also built 21 new amenity blocks for the Clinterty travelling persons' site in Aberdeen, which was officially opened in April.

The firm's latest development is planned to be ready for Clydebank residents to move into their homes by the end of the year.

Jennifer Higgins, CEO at Connect Modular said: "We are thrilled to be partnering with West Dunbartonshire Council to transform the long-vacant brownfield site in Gilmour Avenue.

"This collaboration represents our dedication to creating sustainable and high-quality housing solutions for communities in need.

"By utilising our expertise in modular construction, we can accelerate the development process while minimising our environmental footprint.

"We are excited to provide residents with modern, comfortable homes that seamlessly integrate into their surroundings."

Earlier this year Connect Modular was added to the major development supply chain run by Hub South East, enabling it to bid for public sector contracts in Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Scottish Borders.

The company's growing profile saw it earn a visit from Scotland's housing minister Paul McLennan last year.
