A teenage girl was assaulted on Friday night after reports of a disturbance in Cumnock, according to police.

A number of police vehicles were spotted in the Ayr Road area  of the town at around 9pm.

Officers on patrol were made aware of a 14-year-old girl being assaulted, however there were no reported injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.15pm on Friday, 21 June, 2024, officers on routine patrol were made of aware of a disturbance and a 14-year-old girl being assaulted in the Ayr Road area of Cumnock.

"There are no reported injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing.
