St Patrick’s Primary School rounded off a superb week when they lifted the Ayrshire Primary Schools Cup in 2004. The Auchinleck school had only reached the final of the competition, for schools with under 200 pupils, the previous day with a close win over Catrine Primary.

A memorial to local miners was unveiled in Muirkirk by the First Minister. The statue, created by local artist Kirti-Mandir, was officially unveiled by Jack McConnell in July 2004.

An Ochiltree woman defied the odds to secure a £7,000 win on a national television show in July 2004. A golden call to the Richard and Judy show proved a godsend to Carol Reid, whose descriptive work on the show’s phone-in competition helped hosts Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan guess seven images right.

Mauchline Old Folks Welfare Group enjoyed a beautiful day for their trip to Stirling in 2004. They had time for shopping and basking in Scottish history, having high tea at the Robert Bruce Hotel at Bannockburn.
