A CHARITY event in memory of a teenager who died in Cumnock six years ago is set to return next month.

The Murray Harkness Charity Day will take place at Glaisnock Valley Bowling Club in Netherthird on Saturday, July 13.

Murray was just 18 when he died in October 2018, following a night out at what was then The Box nightclub in the town.

The event is being held to raise funds for Megan’s Space, an Ayrshire charity set up to work with the area’s young people in the areas of suicide prevention, wellbeing and mental health support.

Megan's Space was itself set up in memory of another Ayrshire teenager, Megan Copeland, from Irvine, who was found dead at her home in Irvine in 2019 after a seven year battle with mental health issues.

Earlier this year, the Netherthird Initiative for Community Empowerment (NICE) announced that it had set up a partnership between Megan’s Space and the Netherthird Community Centre to provide counselling and mental health support services for young people in Cumnock and the surrounding area, using the state-of-the-art facilities available at the community centre.

The charity operates sessions at the community centre every Tuesday and Thursday.

A host of prizes are up for grabs at next month’s event, including signed Rangers and Celtic player photos and a block of 10 driving lessons from Wheeler’s Driving School.

Tickets cost £5 and are available in advance from the community centre. See the ‘Netherthird Community Centre’ page on Facebook for more information.
