AN ELDERLY woman has died following a serious crash on the A70 between Ayr and Cumnock more than a week ago - and a second woman is still fighting for her life in hospital.

Police say that the 88-year-old woman lost her life after the crash, involving an MG ZS car and an HGV, near the Killoch junction between Ochiltree and Coalhall.

The accident happened at around 1.40pm on Tuesday, June 4.

The woman was a passenger in the MG, whose driver, a 59-year-old woman, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The 30-year-old male driver of the HGV was not injured.

Police have now renewed their appeal for information to help them piece together what happened.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the lady who died and we are continuing our enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

“I would also ask anyone who was travelling on the road around the time and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to contact us.

”Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1705 of June 4, 2024."
