Plans to build a new home in Muirkirk and demolish two current buildings at the site have been given the green light.

An initial application, lodged by JKM Consultancy, was withdrawn back in November after advice from East Ayrshire Council to submit a fresh bid.

The same company lodged fresh plans at the start of the year on behalf of the applicant that would see a home built on the corner of Main Street and Carruthers Park.

The project will include the demolition of the current house and the workshop space to the rear.

In its place, a new two-bedroom home with garden space and two parking spaces has been earmarked.

A planning statement submitted along with the application said: "The site is currently occupied by a former garage office detached building and behind is a garage building.

"The site is not in a conservation area, nor are there any other historic environment constraints on the site or nearby.

"The site does not have any ecological importance due to its previous use as a commercial bus garage site.

"The proposed dwelling house is of a size and scale and design in general finish that is characterised with two mono-pitched roof elements that allow a vaulted ceiling with vertical emphasis to the fenestration.

"As a corner site, which extends mainly to the rear, with a commercial past, the proposed use for residential development, and the design, is considered to be an improvement on the existing structures that occupy the site."

Comments of support were also added to the application, with no objections being lodged.

On supporter said: "Speaking as a native of the village of Muirkirk, I welcome any regenerative improvement at my home village.

"This particular application is much desired. The planned erection is innovative and will add character to an area which has become sad and dilapidated.

"The design looks excellent and the materials to be of good standard. There is zero negative impact on this locale and only positive and much needed enhancement is promised.

"I think this application offers only positives."
