Nearly 1,000 primary 6 pupils in East Ayrshire have picked up some important advice on personal safety at a week-long learning event.

The P6 pupils took part in a special 'danger detectives' course to learn about the role of the emergency services, how to react to dangerous situations, and how they can protect and support vulnerable people in their communities.

Pupils also took part in a range of fun, interactive workshops including community safety/anti-social behaviour, home fire safety, road safety, water safety and countryside safety.

The workshops gave all the agencies the opportunity to speak to the young people and highlight issues and dangers they might face in today’s world.

Cumnock Chronicle:

This multi-agency partnership is led by the Play & Early Intervention team at East Ayrshire Vibrant Communities.

It's supported by Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Ayrshire Roads Alliance, Dean Castle Country Park Ranger Service and East Ayrshire Council's health and safety and trading standards teams.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, cabinet spokesperson for education, children and young people, said: “Danger Detectives is a fantastic idea as it teaches young people, in innovative and interactive ways, about the many dangers which might exist in all sorts of situations.

"Our young people are now armed with knowledge and have the confidence to protect themselves, and their friends, from potentially dangerous situations.

“Thanks go to all of our partners for taking the time to work with our young people throughout the week, and to our teachers, support staff and especially our young people who took part enthusiastically in every session.”
