Mauchline is gearing up for the its busiest day of the year on Saturday, May 25.

The town's Holy Fair event has long been a favourite, bringing in thousands of people throughout the day to browse the various stalls, take in the entertainment and join in on the fun.

Three event stages and more than 70 stalls will feature at this year's day-long celebration.

With loads happening throughout the day, including pipe band performances, singers and all kinds of activities, we've put together some key information know before heading along.

Cumnock Chronicle:

When does it start?

This year's event will kick off with a bumper procession which will begin at Mauchline Fire Station at 10.45am.

Where can I get parked?

The main parking is located on the playing fields just off Barskimming Road. There is a nominal fee for parking, all going towards the costs.

Who organises it?

The current Mauchline Holy Fair group have been in charge of organising the event since taking over from the Mauchline Burns Club in 2014.

Road closures

From 2pm on May 24 until 9pm on May 25, there will be a road closure of Castle Street, Loudoun Street and Loudoun Street Car Park.

There will also be an enforcement of no waiting in place for the same times on:

  • Barskimming Road - From B743 to outside house number 18A on both sides
  • Castle Street - Full length on both sides
  • Cowgate - Full length on both sides
  • High Street - B743 from A76 Trunk Road to Mansefield Road on both sides
  • Loudoun Street - B743 from A76 Trunk Road to 20 metres South of Barskimming Road on both sides

More than a year's worth of support from grant funding, fund-raising events - and the tireless efforts of the Holy Fair's army of volunteers have gone into creating the standout day in Mauchline's calendar.

Cumnock Chronicle:

Robert Burns wrote about the Holy Fair of 1786 in his poem of the same name, and while more than 200 years may have passed since then, the event remains as popular as ever.

The dedicated Mauchline Holy Fair website has loads of information about the day, as does the Facebook page.
