Cumnock Academy pupils from the 60s will have the chance to reacquaint themselves with old friends at an event this summer.

A reunion for pupils who attended the school between 1964 and 1970 will take place at the Dumfries Arms Hotel in Cumnock on Thursday, August 15.

Running from 12.30pm-5pm, former pupils will have the chance to take a trip down memory lane, to chat all things Cumnock Academy.

Whether it's a discussion about favourite teachers, worst subjects or anything else memorable from their time at the school, nothing is off limits in this get-together.

Pupils attending Cumnock Academy during this time would have started their education at the former Greenmill building on Barrhill Road.

According to the Cumnock History Group, the Barrhill Road building served as Cumnock Academy until 1969, when it then became a primary school, and academy pupils were taught at the now-demolished Cumnock Academy building on Ayr Road.

The Ayr Road school closed for the final time in October 2020, when pupils made the transition to the new Robert Burns Academy nearby.

Cumnock's empty Barrhill Road building is due to be demolished, with work expected to start later this year.
